On Friday April 10 a woman was killed in a single vehicle crash.
According to State Police, the accident happened shortly after 8 a.m. on the Chitimacha Trail near Charenton. A 2011 Nissan Altima driven by Matthew Trosclair of Franklin was heading eastbound on the trail. While going around a curve, Trosclair ran off the road to the right, drove into a ditch and slammed into a culvert. The Nissan overturned several times and one of the passengers, 20 year old Brylan Domingue of New Iberia was ejected. She was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
There were three other people in the vehicle, including the driver and they fled the scene. Police used dogs to track down two of them in a nearby field but the third is still at large.
Trosclair was booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail on two counts of vehicular negligent injuring and one count each of vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, careless operation and failure to report an accident. He is also suspected of being impaired and toxicology results are awaited.
