Two Fatal Crashes in Acadiana

On Tuesday, October 11, there were two fatal crashes in Acadiana.

According to state police, the first crash happened on Anse Broussard Highway at Juleau Champagne Road near Breaux Bridge in St. Martin Parish shortly after 9 p.m. when a 2011 Toyota Camry exited the right side of the roadway and flipped several times. Neither the driver nor passenger, 40 year old Christopher Richard of St. Martinsville, was wearing seatbelts and they were both ejected. Richards was pronounced dead at the scene and the unidentified driver was taken to a Lafayette Hospital with moderate injuries. Toxicology is awaited to see if the driver was impaired.

The second crash happened around 11:15 p.m. on US 167 at LA 182 in St. Landry Parish when 34 year old Al Fournier, of Lawtell, was riding a 2009 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle eastbound and hit the back of 2005 Dodge Durango SUV. The Dodge Durango left the roadway and hit a light pole and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered moderate injuries.

Fournier was declared dead at the scene.

This crash is also under investigation.
