A lawsuit has been filed by a torque technician naming the owners and operators of a maritime rig, alleging their negligence caused him severe injuries.
The lawsuit was filed on March 18 by Kalob Lafosse of Acadia Parish in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Magnolia Torque & Testing Inc. It alleges that the general maritime law was violated.
Lafosse was employed as a torque technician by Magnolia Torque & Testing Inc., and was working on the Neesen Rig owned and operated by Anadarko in the Gulf of Mexico. In March last year Lafosse was working with a pneumatic impact unit when the socket dislodged from the flange bolt. Lafosse was hit in the face and knocked off his work platform leading to facial lacerations, concussion and dental trauma. The lawsuit alleges a the person in charge of Anadarko knew or should have known the task undertaken by the plaintiff required a hydraulic unit to do the work and that his injuries were a direct result of the defendants’ negligence and failure to prevent a hazardous work environment on the Neesen Rig.
Lafosse is seeking compensatory damages, past, present and future medical expenses, punitive damages, attorney fees, costs and a trial by jury.
